September Update:
Over the past months, despite continued coverage and relief efforts, the situation in the Horn of Africa has worsened. Famine and drought continues to ravage the area, while humanitarian relief is working desperately to reach those in need. The number of Somali refugees into Kenya was 152,734, while 78,476 sought refuge in Ethiopia. The relief is 62% funded, still lacking almost $1 billion in for the relief effort.

Famine in the horn of Africa
As you might be aware, the horn of Africa region which includes kenya Somalia, Ethiopia is facing a severe famine, the worst in 60 years according to the UN. The results have been catastrophic with acute malnutrition among children; loss of livelihoods and thousands of lives being lost daily.

OCHA | Eastern Africa: Drought – Humanitarian Snapshot as of 20 Jul 2011
A new guide has been released, explaining the drought consequences in the Horn of Africa. The guide explains that 10 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, with the area predicted to experience an emergency in food security from July - September 2011. Inflation of prices and vast lack of precipitation among other problems are explained in the guide. This tool was developed by the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWSNet), and the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
